Far Cry 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released on October 21, 2008 in North America and on October 23, 2008 in Europe and Australia. Crytek, developers of the original game, were not involved in the development of Far Cry 2. It was announced on January 3, 2008, that in addition to Microsoft Windows, Far Cry 2 would also be available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Ubisoft has marketed Far Cry 2 as the true sequel to Far Cry, but the sequel abandons the science fiction aspect of the previous games in the franchise.Instead, it features completely new characters and setting, as well asa new style of gameplay that has been dubbed "more realistic". The gametakes place in a fictional modern-day Central Africannation in a state of anarchy and civil war. The player takes control ofa mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate "TheJackal," a notorious arms dealer. The game is unique in that it is a shooter taking place in an open world, in which the player can explore the region and undertake missions from various factions. On all platforms, Far Cry 2 received highly positive reviews from video game critics.
