At the beginning of the game, the player is on a ship going to theisland and then chooses to be either a boy or girl resident on thisisland that houses a goddess and a tree. The tree suddenly dries up,and the goddess disappears. The player must restore the magic of theisland and bring back the goddess and her tree.
The player starts out the first few days of the game living in thelocal inn before he or she is given his or her own farm. During thisperiod, the player is given time to learn the controls throughpart-time jobs, introduce himself or herself to the villagers, andexplore the island. A few days later the mayor issues the player a plotof land. Then, the farming begins. The player can marry and have achild (a girl or a boy). Rival couples will also marry and havechildren.
To revive the tree (the main story throughout the game), the playermust go through a series of steps to help the Harvest Sprites create rainbowsand collect certain badges. But first, the player must find a fewpieces of a quilt that tells the story of this tree and how to make therainbows on the island. The mayor Hamilton has one piece and so doeshis son Gill. The player will begin to start collecting the ingredientsto make these rainbows. Once all rainbows are created, the tree will revive and the goddess will return.After which the game continues indefinitely. The player is also giventhe choice to start over as "his or her child" with the same tools andadditional money. All the villagers and spouse relations are reset.
