Three long years have passed since Spyro andCynder were trapped in the crystal, since then Malefor has unleashedhis evil onto the world. In this third chapter of the epic Legend ofSpyro trilogy, Spyro must fulfill his destiny and face the Dark Master. As evil spreads over the world, Spyro and Cynder must discover newabilities and unlock their true powers to defeat Malefor and stop himfrom destroying the world.

This is the first Spyro game that a player can fly at any time they want (free-fly mode). The game also features a co-op (two player) play with Cynder, which introduces players to drop-in/drop-out with the cooperative feature. The co-op feature allows players to have the option of completing the game as either Spyro or Cynder, also giving them the power to switch between Spyro and Cynder, giving them more freedom to explore Spyro's world in completely new ways. It was confirmed that Spyro retains his commandments of fire, electricity, earth and ice, while Cynder controls poison, wind, shadow and fear. The powers were given to her when she was controlled by the Dark Master, in addition to being faster but weaker. She is seen breathing fire in "A New Beginning", a power she can only access in her giant form. Along with the standard power ups that gems will bring, Spyro and Cynder can now both equip dragon armor in pieces that they find. They also have another feature called: "melee combos" which means the players can do a number of hit combos to their enemies and the more the hit combos, the more experienced Blue Gems the players will earn. There's also Red gems, that give the dragons more health.
